Is the Callaway Steelhead III Metalwood w/Steel Golf Driver a fairway wood or a driver?

And is it a good club and how big is the head size (_____ cc)

It sounds like you’re describing a driver. The Steelhead III drivers come in lofts of 7,8,9,10,11, and 12 degrees. The driver head size is 225 cc. I bought the Steelhead III 3 and 5 woods when they first came out, and I love them. I hit the 3 and 5 woods so good that I tried a 10 degree Steelhead III driver. I didn’t hit it as well as my Ping driver, but it’s still a good club. They’re solid clubs.

which is a better driver callaway x460 or taylormade r7?

Hands down Taylormade r7 460… the adjustable weights make this driver very versatile, and you can custom adjust it to fit your swing. The feel is rock solid. I think if you hit them both I think you will agree.

Has anyone hit the Callaway FT-5 Driver?

I am buying a new Callaway FT-5 driver. I just wanted some feed back about it. I hit the FT-i driver, it was nice but looks horrible. The pro at my club was like go with the FT-5 if i don’t like the square club head of the FT-i. Please do not reply if you are only play golf like once a month, i want serious answers.

Funny you would ask today! Yesterday Callaway had a demo day at my club. What a great opportunity to try out some new sticks! I hit both the FT-i & FT-5. Hands down winner is the FT-5. Flies hard, far & true-even mis-hits were decent. Most forgiving & distance driver I have EVER hit. Ordered a new FT-5 to replace my current Callaway 454. Getting the "neutral" which still has a 1 degree closed face.
Hope this helps.

should my drivers, irons, and woods, all be made my the same co or can I mix and match?

I am new to golfing, I have an old ‘beater’ set of clubs, but I want to purchase newer ones-I like Callaway
any other reccomendations for clubs or other tips are more than welcome and greatly appreciated!

John knows his business; there is no reason to worry about everything matching, but spending all that money for Callaway (or any other top of the line brands) might not make sense for a beginner. I recommend (as John said) either talking to the pro at your local course or going to a reputable golf shop (such as Golfsmith, Edwin Watts, Golf Galaxy) and have them put you on a swing monitor. That will tell your swing speed and angle so you can purchase the proper shaft flex, length and other optional factors.

Many of the ‘off-brands’ are manufactured by the same companies as the major names but cost far less because there is no marketing budget to recoup. There is a company in Dallas that produces clubs with the Adams brand name and also several brands of private label names. They are all of equal quality, but the difference in price is tremendous.

Also, look at Tour Edge clubs. They sell some of the finest clubs on the market for a fraction of what the other brands cost because there is no marketing cost. Approximately two-thirds of the cost of name brand golf clubs is marketing. That’s why after one year on the market, most clubs sell for a fraction of their original price. For example, TaylorMade r7 irons were $899 when they first came out and are now selling for $399 everywhere.

taylor made Super Quad Driver or Burner Driver, which is better?

Absolutely the Super Quad. The Burner feels like a wiffle ball bat to me.

Has anyone hit the Taylor Made R7 CGB Max Driver? How is it?

I’m thinking about trading in my old R7 460.

Hit them both last weekend and the money difference is too much. I was not more than 15 yards total difference between distance and line off the Tee. I kept the CGB a little closer to the center but got no great added distance.I say save the money and see what comes out next year.

A few people have said that the Callaway X460 Tour driver really does have a closed face….does anyone else?

I disagree, as I was about to buy one today, and it seemed perfectly square……I am planning on buying it this week, as long as the Tour Version really is square…..does anyone know anyhing that I don’t?

Go to their website.
