is the Driver golf club always the longest in length?

my grandma just gave me my grandpa’s and im about to start so can anyone help me

Yes. 45" is the standard length that many manufacturers follow.

Recently, with lighter shaft and bigger club head, some companies (e.g. Nike, TaylorMade) have lengthened the stock driver length (e.g. Nike Sumo 45.75", TaylorMade Burner 46").

They claim their drivers add 10 more yards….which is true, but they don’t normally mention the fact that they’ve also increased the shaft by almost an inch. The longer the shaft, the further the ball will fly, but the harder to make solid contact.

Gotta love their marketing department!! :-)

Which driver should I buy? (loft, draw, etc.)?

Hi all… just in the market for a new driver to help out my golf game. I currently shoot in the high 80’s to low 90’s. My irons are Nike Slingshot OSS and I absolutely love them. I have an older Callaway Big Bertha driver, but I’m looking to replace it. I’m pretty sure that I’m settled on a Taylor Made Burner Driver, but I’m just not sure what configuration I want. For example, should I get the 9.5 or 10.5 degree club? Also, should I go for the Draw version or the regular version? As of now, I don’t slice the ball too bad, but it does fade on occassion. Thanks in advance for all the help.

Instead of asking a bunch of people who have none of the same swing characteristic’s as you you should go to your local range or golf superstore and try every driver you can to see what is the best configuration for you, in other words get fitted for the club, the biggest mistake people do now is buy a club because of its name or because it works good for someone else , if you get fitted you will get a club with the proper shaft for your swing speed and the proper loft ect……
so do your self a favor and get fitted you will enjoy the game a lot more

Good Luck.

i hit a "power fade" and i’m trying to straighten it out but can’t seem to figure out what i do wrong?

i have made some changes to my swing when i can i’ll post my swing to yahoo answers but until then can someone help me figure out what i could be doing. i swing very hard and have a stiff flex shaft on my taylor made burner and i hit my irons straight but nothing else. i swing my burner at around 110 or higher mph. i do tend to push the ball. sometimes i aim well left and i’ll still push it and slice it. i have a considerably smooth swing but i do jerk the club at the beginning of my back swing, and i swing for the most part have a natural fade and when i want i can hit a draw but i’m going to be playing for my golf team this year. i hit my drives for the most part about 270-300 yards. i just wanted to know why i push the ball even though i aim well left? and what i can do to straighten out my drive for more consistency? please help me i need it

Without seeing your swing it is tough to say what it is, however here are some drills that may help you:

1. Tee a ball 1/4 of an inch off the ground. Place a 2×4 next to the ball (3 inches away.) Take 2 clubs (3 and 4 iron), and aim them at the target on the ground for a reference. Have the 2×4 touch the tip closest to the club next to the ball and the other end 3 inches in from the grip.
Swing away with a 7 iron without hitting the wood.

Why: a common cause to the slice or power fade is the outside to in swing pattern. Should you swing inside to out on this drill, you will hit the 2×4. Your divot should face the target.

This should be a good start to make sure your swing plane is correct.

Also, this should add another 5-10 yards to your drive due to closing out the club face. When you slice, the club face is open causing the loft to be open. By closing the face, your get more distance

How do i improve my golf swing?

How do i improve my golf swing?
I am a fairly good golfer i golf 3 times a day i just want a few tips

you could have been a little more descriptive of what you perceive as your problem with your swing…

DISTANCE:
work out more… distance is about strength and club to ball connection… use your hips to DRIVE through the swing… that’s where all of the power comes from…

SLICING:
you’re facing your hips out on your down swing similar to how a baseball player would pull the ball down the opposite field line… tighten your form…

HOOKING:
you’re facing your hips too far inwards…. adjust…. video tape your swing from different angles and watch…

DRIVER POPS UP"
you’re getting too much loft… take a half step up on your approach

DRIVER WORM BURNERS:
you’re club head is hitting the ball too far above the center point… center your club to ball connection…

INTENTIONAL HOOK:
club head contact on right side of ball

INTENTIONAL SLICE:
club head contact on left side of ball

PUTTING DISTANCE:
aside from the obvious (hitting it harder), club head contact on upper portion of ball to create extra spin which can add a couple of feet… play more video game golf… the putting aspect of video games helps you to understand gradients of slope on a putting green and how much one has to compensate…

What is the best golf ball for short iron spin?

I am looking for a ball that gives excellent short iron spin, probably has a urethane cover and is not a pro v 1, prov 1x, Nike one series, or Bridgestone B series as they are quite expensive. Thanks.
I strike the ball well. The courses I play aren’t that great, even fairway shots have grass that is semi long and gets between the club face and ball. However, my divots are on the target side of the ball.

well if there was such a ball there would be none left bye now lol but the top flite gamer is very good and you can see its spin rating compared to the top balls although i don’t think its urethane. the other ball u can get is 30 dollars a dozen but it has a spin rate second only to the Nike one platinum and that ball is the Wilson Tx4.

High Spin Balls

1. Nike One Platinum @ 13,451 rpm
2. Wilson Tx4 @ 12,454 rpm
3. Nike One Black @ 12,431 rpm
4. Titleist Pro V1x @ 12,299 rpm
5. Srixon Z-URC @ 12,250 rpm
6. Bridgestone e5+ @ 12140
7. Bridgestone Tour B330 @ 12,137
8. Srizon Z-URS @ 12,137
9. TaylorMade TP Black @ 12,062
10. Titleist Pro V1 @ 11,914
11. Taylormade TP Red @ 11,872
12. Bridgestone Tour B330S @ 11,866
13. Callaway HX Hot Bite @ 11,331
14. TaylorMade Burner TP @ 10,894
15. Titleist NXT Tour @ 10,612
16. Wilson Zip @ 10,518
17. Callaway Tour i @ 10,473

Is it normal to have a completely different swing for my driver than my wedges?

I have always hit my irons long, high and straight, but i have always had a nasty slice with my driver. I had a steep swing and I didnt transfer much weight. Well I recently fixed my slice by taking a much flatter backswing and transfering all my weight to my front foot on the downswing and now I carry the ball about 285 and straight… which makes me extremely happy, but now I cant hit my irons very well at all. Should I just use my old swing with my irons and use my new much flatter swing with my driver, or should I figure out how to use my new swing with my irons too (i’ve hit a lot of range balls with my irons lately trying use the same swing and so far its not working out very well)…

I was about a 10 handicap, but I never hit my drive in the fairway. I always thought that if I fixed my drive I would be close to a scratch golfer… but now that I crush straight drives I cant hit my irons anymore so I am still about a 10 handicap, go figure, just when you think you have the game of golf figured out.

I use a taylor made burner 10.5 and thin tour style ram irons if it makes any difference. And please dont just tell me to get a lesson. I dont need someone trying to make my swing look just like theirs, im short and my golf pros are tall so it usually doesnt work out very well, ive tried. I just need some good tips to try on the range.

Hey Burns you can relax you’re perfectly normal. You sound like you always had a single axis swing; you know like the stack and tilt that’s all the rage. Well this swing has been around forever and produces as you describe a steep angle of attack and solid contact with the irons. This swing also produces a very consistent ball flight and distances with the irons however one of the drawbacks is the steep angle doesn’t work to well with woods especially the driver so what to do. The driver has a flatter lie angle than the rest of your clubs so it’s natural to let yourself swing on a flatter swing plane and let yourself sweep the ball with your woods producing on line drives that react to the loft on your driver. Absolutely the right thing to do ; also right is to swing the irons on a more upright plane and hit down on a steeper angle as you used to do. You practise lots so being able to control both your irons and your driver should not be a problem as you’ll be using the same swing but changing the angle of attack only. I like your choice of driver and player’s blades. Lower scores are just around the corner. Good luck.

! would go somewhere where you can hit all these clubs before you buy them and see how they feel for you. Thats what golf is all about ….how the club and the shot feels in your hands…not someone elses. If you want a decent set of clubs for that preice (irons) I would look at those Tommy Armour 855’s.

Im a 14 year old kid who plays golf and I want to buy a Nike Sumo SasQuatch Driver.?

Average I hit the ball more than 200 yards but less than 270 (WHEN I HIT IT GOOD).
And I was thinking if I get a lower loft does that make it go farther, I was thinking like 8.5. I play my dad’s 9.5 Taylor Made Burner.
So does higher loft mean less distance but goes higher
and lower loft means more distance but comes down quicker

Not necessarily. Sure those long drive contestants are hitting drivers with 4 and 5 degrees of loft, but if your wanting more distance, it’s all about clubhead speed. Loft determines the carry. A higher loft means you’ll hit the ball higher, but that’s not good if you’re hitting into the wind. I started out hitting a 10.5 degree driver and was having trouble hitting it in the fairway and thought that since I hit 3 wood more consistently in the fairway, I’d get a higher lofted driver. So I switched to a 13 degree driver and while I hit it in the fairway the majority of the time, I lost distance. I bought a Sumo 5000 10.5 degree and I love it. I hit more fairways than any other driver I’ve ever used. Even if I hit it high on the face, I’m in the fairway and that’s most important. If I hit the sweet spot…..look out. You’ll need more clubhead speed to get more distance and the way to do that is to get stronger. Weight room buddy!
