I use Nike Mojo, Nike Karma and Callaway Warbird golf balls good for adding spin to my shot?

and other than keep my grooves clean, and stay aligned with the ball through the shot, any other good tips for spin?

oh and i heard the Nike Sumo 5900( squared driver) was illegal, is that true?.. just curious.. i just ordered one a few days ago and stumbled along an article saying it was illegal, i just want clarification..
thanks ;D

None of those brands will max out your wedge spin. If you want max spin, you might need to shell out for Tour style balls. Tour balls have urethane covers, which is softer than the Surlyn or Ionomer covers found on "cheaper" (for lack of a better word) balls like the Warbirds and Mojos. Urethane quickly grabs the grooves of your club, whereas Surlyn or Ionomer slides up a few grooves, then catches.

Another thing to help spin: play the ball about two ball-widths back of center. If you make ball-first contact and take a divot, that’ll help your spin rate go higher. Also- accelerate through the shot. Deceleration kills spin. Make you throughswing look like a mirror image of your backswing to make sure you aren’t slowing down through the shot

No, the 5900 isn’t illegal. The first square SuMo driver was… the first run, anyway. Subsequent products of the original were stamped with a circle on the sole, to let consumers know they were conforming,

Whats your fav golf club driver ?

Im thinking of buying a new one and was looking at maybe a King cobra or a Taylor made r7. Whats the difference between a stiff shaft and a flex shaft?

Golf club shafts come in a variety of flex ratings. I’ve seen all these at one time or another:
- Ladies (L)
- Seniors (A)
- Lite*
- Regular (R, M)
- Firm*
- Wedge*
- Stiff (S)
- Extra Stiff (XS)

The above are roughly in order of stiffness, with obscure ones starred. There is, however, no agreed standard for flex. One firm’s regular will be stiffer than another (though any stiff will normally be stiffer than any regular). If you are a normally-built man, you probably want a regular. If you are particularly tall and/or strong, a big hitter, you probably want stiff. The best distance is obtained by having the right flex for your swing characteristics, so that the shaft releases its elastic energy just as you hit the ball.

Stiffness isn’t even all of the question. Some shafts have a lower flex point than others – they bend nearer to the club head. This tends to make the ball fly higher. Shafts also have different ratings for torque (resistance to twisting). The weight of the shaft can make a difference to the balance of the club too.

Then of course there’s the loft (face angle) of the club. Most amateurs should have a face angle of 11*-12* – even 14* for slow swingers – but most drivers are made with lower lofts of around 10*.

If you are spending big-name money on a driver, make sure you get fitted by a professional (NB better a club pro than a shop assistant at a discount store). Having the right shaft and loft will enable you to hit the ball 20 yards further AND straighter – and the only way to find the right one is to try lots.

To answer your initial question, I have a Benross V10 high loft with an Aldila NVS shaft. I’m very happy with it. I think the right shaft is more important than the right head.

What is the best golf ball for short iron spin?

I am looking for a ball that gives excellent short iron spin, probably has a urethane cover and is not a pro v 1, prov 1x, Nike one series, or Bridgestone B series as they are quite expensive. Thanks.
I strike the ball well. The courses I play aren’t that great, even fairway shots have grass that is semi long and gets between the club face and ball. However, my divots are on the target side of the ball.

well if there was such a ball there would be none left bye now lol but the top flite gamer is very good and you can see its spin rating compared to the top balls although i don’t think its urethane. the other ball u can get is 30 dollars a dozen but it has a spin rate second only to the Nike one platinum and that ball is the Wilson Tx4.

High Spin Balls

1. Nike One Platinum @ 13,451 rpm
2. Wilson Tx4 @ 12,454 rpm
3. Nike One Black @ 12,431 rpm
4. Titleist Pro V1x @ 12,299 rpm
5. Srixon Z-URC @ 12,250 rpm
6. Bridgestone e5+ @ 12140
7. Bridgestone Tour B330 @ 12,137
8. Srizon Z-URS @ 12,137
9. TaylorMade TP Black @ 12,062
10. Titleist Pro V1 @ 11,914
11. Taylormade TP Red @ 11,872
12. Bridgestone Tour B330S @ 11,866
13. Callaway HX Hot Bite @ 11,331
14. TaylorMade Burner TP @ 10,894

Which golf ball do you like?

My handicap is 3.3. I have been playing Bridgestone B330-S. Really long but disappointed with the spin on less then full wedge shots. Just started playing 2009 ProV1x and like it a little better for spin while still having good length. Anyone played the Nike Platinim, Srixon STARx, Callaway ix, or TaylorMade that want to chime in. Id love to hear your take…thx.

pro-v’s are rated the best ball from the blind testing done on this month’s golf digest. for other ratings you can check out the issue. as far as personal recommendations, the nike platinum gives me a balanced feel from drive to putt.

Is it normal to have a completely different swing for my driver than my wedges?

I have always hit my irons long, high and straight, but i have always had a nasty slice with my driver. I had a steep swing and I didnt transfer much weight. Well I recently fixed my slice by taking a much flatter backswing and transfering all my weight to my front foot on the downswing and now I carry the ball about 285 and straight… which makes me extremely happy, but now I cant hit my irons very well at all. Should I just use my old swing with my irons and use my new much flatter swing with my driver, or should I figure out how to use my new swing with my irons too (i’ve hit a lot of range balls with my irons lately trying use the same swing and so far its not working out very well)…

I was about a 10 handicap, but I never hit my drive in the fairway. I always thought that if I fixed my drive I would be close to a scratch golfer… but now that I crush straight drives I cant hit my irons anymore so I am still about a 10 handicap, go figure, just when you think you have the game of golf figured out.

I use a taylor made burner 10.5 and thin tour style ram irons if it makes any difference. And please dont just tell me to get a lesson. I dont need someone trying to make my swing look just like theirs, im short and my golf pros are tall so it usually doesnt work out very well, ive tried. I just need some good tips to try on the range.

Hey Burns you can relax you’re perfectly normal. You sound like you always had a single axis swing; you know like the stack and tilt that’s all the rage. Well this swing has been around forever and produces as you describe a steep angle of attack and solid contact with the irons. This swing also produces a very consistent ball flight and distances with the irons however one of the drawbacks is the steep angle doesn’t work to well with woods especially the driver so what to do. The driver has a flatter lie angle than the rest of your clubs so it’s natural to let yourself swing on a flatter swing plane and let yourself sweep the ball with your woods producing on line drives that react to the loft on your driver. Absolutely the right thing to do ; also right is to swing the irons on a more upright plane and hit down on a steeper angle as you used to do. You practise lots so being able to control both your irons and your driver should not be a problem as you’ll be using the same swing but changing the angle of attack only. I like your choice of driver and player’s blades. Lower scores are just around the corner. Good luck.

please make ajustments if you can… nothing to expensive though
thanks

! would go somewhere where you can hit all these clubs before you buy them and see how they feel for you. Thats what golf is all about ….how the club and the shot feels in your hands…not someone elses. If you want a decent set of clubs for that preice (irons) I would look at those Tommy Armour 855’s.

Titleist Pro V1 vs. Pro V1x

I want to know which ball spins more off your short irons and wedges. I can back spin pretty much 6 iron and lower on my aproch shots, and i have pretty good distance. So i want to be able to really spin my shots, would the pro v1 or the pro v1x be better for that. And which on goes farther, I’m not as concered about distance, but i would just like to know on the side. I shoot about 80 on a par 72 (70.8 rating 126 slope). I have an 11.8 handicap.

ProV1 spins MORE than the X…..

On irons you will not be able to tell alot of difference both spin very well.

The X is for golfers who produce a lot of spin with the driver! My brother-in-law is a pro he hits the ProV1 20+ yards farther than the ProV1x because he does not produce a lot of spin off the tee, I hit the ProV1x 20+ yards farther because I produce alot of spin with a driver.

Go to a shop where they can measure the spin you produce, both balls may be the same for you, and if so I would use the reg ProV1 because it has a lil softer feel.

You want to have 2800 to 3000 revolutions.
